I’d like to welcome Michelle Pino of Skana Spa to what I hope will be the first of many guest posts on A Real Housewife In Houston. She loves sharing her DIY recipes with others and using all natural products. Michelle also loves meeting new people, learning from others and scrolling through Pinterest. She has been kind enough to share the following article she recently completed and I hope you enjoy it.
How to Get Glowing Skin
Cold weather is often accompanied by excessively dry facial skin, resulting in cracking and sensitivity. Luckily, there are home remedies that can treat your dry skin and give you flawless, celebrity-like skin as seen at the Oscar’s by simply using ingredients right in your kitchen. I recommend using these recipes, as they are similar to ones offered at Skana Spa, where I work. We use all natural ingredients, some that you can typically find right in your fridge.
Moisturizing Oatmeal Mask
To combat dry skin from home, dermatologists recommend making an oatmeal mask because oats are full of fats that moisturize the skin. Oatmeal is full of carbohydrate molecules that, when combined with water, form a soft texture and leave a protective layer. Honey is a critical addition because it’s full of antioxidants that fight off sun damage and add a smooth texture. Experts recommend making an oatmeal mask that contains.
What You Need:
4 tablespoons of oats (not instant)
4 tablespoons of warm water
1 tablespoon of honey
How To Make It: Place the oats in a food processor to achieve an oat flour texture. Place the ground oats into a bowl, slowly adding the water and honey. Allow the mixture to sit and cool off for 5-10 minutes.
How to Apply It: Rinse your face with warm water. Before skin is fully dry, spread the mixture evenly onto your face, avoiding the eyelids and mouth. Allow the mask to dry for about 15 minutes, or longer for extra moisture. Rinse your face with warm water, pat dry, and apply your usual moisturizer.
Replenishing Avocado Mask
Moisturized skin fights wrinkles, which can be achieved through avocados. Avocados have a high fat content, which similarly to oats, promote moisturized skin. Avocados also contain oils that are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, providing a creamy texture and the perfect base for a mask. Yogurt and honey will add a nice texture and add extra moisture.
What you need:
1 medium, extra ripe avocado (riper ones are easier to mash up)
1/4 cup of honey
1/4 cup of plain yogurt
How to Make It: Peel and pit the avocado then mash it up with a spoon. Stir in the yogurt and honey. Mask should me smooth and not too chunky.
How to Apply It: Cleanse your face with warm water and immediately apply the combination to damp skin, avoiding eyelids and mouth. Let the mask sit for 15 minutes, or longer if desired. Rinse the mask with warm water, pat dry and apply your moisturizer.
You might feel like you just visited the spa because your skin feels great, but your wallet will not. These inexpensive treatments are sure to please anyone!
I will be trying these recipes later this weekend and will be updating this post with a photo so please check back. 😉
