It took me all week to think of something to blog about for today, but I did it. I’m sorry my life just isn’t that exciting anymore (rolling eyes).
I started Ava on her first sippy cup several months ago and she’s gotten to be a real pro with it. It took her a few weeks to get the hang of it, but the past couple of months have allowed me to take all of her daytime bottles out of her feeding cycle as she’s been able to drink from the cup by herself. At her last doctor’s visit, I told her pediatrician that she was drinking from her sippy cup during the day and only getting a bottle at night right before bed. She told me that I needed to have Ava off the bottle completely by 15 months. I thought it was going to be a huge task because Princess really loves that night-time bottle.
This past weekend while on a shopping excursion with my MIL, I picked up some bigger cups that I thought might work to replace the bottle. I found them in a package of 3 at TJ Max for only $6.99!
Nuby Super Flip-it™ 14 oz. Cup
The straw has a “Touch-Flo™ valve that only allows fluid to flow with the sucking action of the child and closes when sucking action ceases, ensuring a leak-resistant cup!” It also has this “hygienic Flip-it™ cover” that allows you to literally flip a cover over the straw for an easy-no-mess storage in the diaper bag or lunch box.
I gave it to Ava first thing yesterday to see how she liked it since she has never used a straw before. It only took her a few minutes to figure out how to use it and she drank from it the whole day with no problems. The real test was that night-time feeding. I took it down to her room and got her all ready for bed. As we sat down and I prepared myself for a temper tantrum, she reached for her new cup and drank nearly the whole cup of milk on her own! SUCCESS … Ava is off the bottle AND drinking from a cup without help at 13.5 months! Mommies of baby’s will understand … it’s the little things.
UPDATE: After only a few weeks, they started leaking A LOT. It could have been from Ava dropping them on the floor or wear & tear from the dishwasher that caused the leaking. But for what it’s worth, we ended up switching to a different brand. It was definitely a good product for transitioning from the bottle though because the straw is about the size of a bottle nipple.
Until next time, this has been a real housewife in Houston moment.
